Nocook meals? [Jun. 11th, 2010|08:48 am]
Natural Foods from Seed to Stomach

Long story short - I killed my range by trying to fix the oven yesterday.

We're not going to be able to replace it for a good long time, so I've got to come up with predominantly raw meals.

I will be able to supplement with a microwave, rice cooker and toaster oven, but don't really want to live on rice, salad, and lean cuisine :-P

TIA :-)

PS FWIW we're vegetarian...

Tap water filter to remove fluoride... [Sep. 21st, 2009|06:38 pm]

This is kind of off-topic, but I'm hoping someone in here might know, as everyone probably wants to be ingesting foods and liquids that are natural.

Does anyone know of a reasonably priced tap water filter that attaches to the faucet and reduces chlorine, lead, asbestos, microbial cysts and fluoride? I do not want to be drinking fluoride at all, but the BRITA filter I grabbed today apparently does not remove any fluoride. Thanks in advance for your help!

Going on a Drive in a couple days [Aug. 25th, 2009|09:10 am]

I"ll be driving from Texas to different parts of Colorado visiting friends and family :-)

What are your favorite foods to eat when you're on long drives?

I'm taking carrots, cucumbers & hummus for snacks.   I'll probably make some Trail Mix too if I get time.

For breakfast, I'm taking granola and soy milk since it seems like it's nearly impossible to find healthful breakfasts on the road.

I haven't decided yet what I'm going to do about lunch & dinner - probably pre-slice some veggies and slap them on some bread with hummus for at least one meal.

What's your favorite zucchini bread recipe?

Thanks!

PS... Would anyone be interested in starting up the food challenge again? I'm so sorry I've been neglecting the community...

Hello! I didn't see anything in the communities profile about not being allowed to do this, but if unwanted, please by all means, remove. =]

I just started a community called my_grocery_list, where people can share what they buy weekly, or in bulk, or whatever else. Swap money saving ideas, recipes, and all kinds of good stuff. I thought the people here might be interested!

Thank you, and this will be cross posted, so I'm sure someone of you will be less than happy with me. =[

Special diets - looking for some help! [Feb. 24th, 2009|02:36 pm]

Hi everyone, I joined this community after someone suggested it in cooking.

My fiance has cystinuria and needs to follow a low protein, preferably vegetarian diet.  He doesn't like vegetables too much, so we've reached the compromise of having 2 vegetarian dinners per week.  However he has G6PD deficiency, which means he can't eat leguminous plants or soy products.  This isn't so much of an issue really, because his meals should be as low-protein as possible, however the problem arises because most of the vegetarian meals I've been able to find have included leguminous plants or tofu as staple ingredients.

I'm struggling to find some main course vegetarian meals which do not use leguminous plants or tofu as staple ingredients, and which are not soups or pasta sauces.  Does anybody have any recipes they could share?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
